Love Story or a Story about Love?

I recently just discovered Netflix in Canada and I've been watching a lot... maybe an excessive amount of movies. Last week I watched 500 Days of summer. And I have been raving about it to my friends for the last week. So now I'll do some raving here.

It stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt who is love struck by his co-worker  played by Zooey Deschanel. Right front the beginning it says it like it is, one of the first lines of the film is "This is not a love story its a story about love." Frankly, i'm sick of love stories that end with rainbows and butterflies. They actually sicken me.

This is not what real love looks like!

This is real. Its funny and witty and got me a little teary eyed. Joseph Gordon-Levitt does an awesome job portraying a young hopeless romantic slightly nerdy greeting card maker named Tom. He tries to win the heart of his dream girl Zooey Deschanel. Deschanel plays Summer a relationship hater who finds a liking in Levitt's character. When she breaks it off between the two of them, he goes through all 500 days he's known Summer to figure out what went wrong.

We have all done some crazy things for love and this movie captures the real moments in relationships that is rarely shown in romantic comedies. It feels genuine and real.

For me character development is very important in any story. The audience has to relate to the characters, as if they were themselves. They have to feel all the emotions that they feel. And the characters in this movies are well developed and thought out. They are not fake or over the top. You sympathize for Tom throughout the movie hopping he can win Summer over. But by the end you understand Summer. She's a little confused and screwed up from her parents relationship but she still doesn't want to give up on real love, even if thats the impression she gives.

If you haven't seen this movie please watch it!!!
